Used Ford Escape SUVs For Sale in Grand Rapids
The Compact SUV that Delivers Everything Michigan Drivers Want
A true millennial in every sense of the word, the Ford Escape is now on its third generation since it was first introduced in 2000. Offering an intriguing mix of stylish good looks, spirited handling, fuel economy and a tremendous array of features, the Ford Escape does a great job of checking off all categories on most car shoppers "must-have" lists. With the utility, performance and technologies that are always in high demand, the Escape deserves serious consideration.
Frankly, in our admittedly-biased opinion, we think that the Ford Escape does the best job in its class of offering Michigan drivers the interior space, versatility, performance and capability that they want, delivering an unbeatable combination -- especially when equipped with all-wheel drive and the SYNC® 3 infotainment system.
Exterior
Ford Escape Exterior
With a truly stylish exterior design, the Ford Escape stands out from a class of lookalike compact crossover SUVs thanks to its high-intensity discharge headlights, dual chrome exhaust tips and 19-inch wheels. The dramatic styling's overall effect is to highlight the contemporary, angular silhouette without looking like an attempt to be quirky for no sound reason.

The Escape SUV seats five comfortably, with rear seats that are designed to accommodate adults -- not small children. That makes the Escape a favorite to take you and your crew for weekend trips to Detroit or Chicago, since everyone can enjoy the ride. If you do have kids, the second-row seats boast two full sets of LATCH connectors, with an upper tether placed in the middle seat.
The controls are laid out in a thoughtful, ergonomic manner, allowing you easy access to the features you need without taking your attention away from the road ahead. The familiarity of controlling climate and entertainment options via buttons and knobs is comforting, given the difficulties some people have with capacitive touch buttons. The infotainment screen sits high on the dash, making it easy to view, and the controls are intuitive and easy to master.
There's ample storage space, starting with the center console that's home to two USB ports and a 12V outlet. Since there's 34.3 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seat, you have enough room to store everyone's luggage -- or set up for a tailgate spread in Ann Arbor or East Lansing. The rear seats fold flat to provide a wide, low cargo area that's increased in size to 67.8 cubic feet, and the 60/40-split allows for a customizable mix of people and gear.
Features
Ford Escape Features
Standard features include a six-speaker AM/FM/CD/auxiliary sound system, steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, and the Ford SYNC® voice-activated infotainment system that boasts Bluetooth® connectivity.
Optional features found on the Ford Escape include a proximity key, a 10-speaker stereo system, navigation, an 8-inch touchscreen and the SYNC® 3 infotainment system, as well as dual-zone climate control, leather seats, and a panoramic moonroof. Some models may also be equipped with such niceties as a hands-free liftgate and a self-parking feature.
Safety
Ford Escape Safety
Thanks to such standard safety features as Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), electronic stability control, traction control, brake assist, park assist, tire pressure monitoring, a headlight washer, child safety locks and a plethora of air bags, you can trust that the Escape has been designed and engineered to protect you and your passengers.
One of the standard safety features we admire most is the MyKey programmable system, which allows parents to reinforce their teen's good driving habits. When their inexperienced driver is in control of the vehicle, parents can set a maximum allowable vehicle speed, audio volume limits and mute the sound until everyone in the vehicle has buckled their seatbelt.
Performance
Ford Escape Performance
Fans can find the Ford Escape equipped with one of several engine options, chief among them a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that comes equipped with front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. There's also a 1.6-liter turbocharged EcoBoost® four-cylinder that delivers more horsepower and fuel economy of up to 32 mpg on the open highway, or a 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost® four-cylinder that delivers the most horsepower and low-end torque of the options, allowing you to tow up to 3,500 pounds behind your Escape. The two turbocharged engines come with standard front-wheel drive, but many are equipped with all-wheel drive -- which, given our winter weather, we do recommend looking for so as to enjoy a more commanding sense of control.
There's no point in sugarcoating things: the Ford Escape is a blast to drive. Thanks to a firm, comfortable ride, you'll enjoy European-style handling that makes for quite the agile driving experience, leading you to look for reasons to take it out on the highway -- especially since your Escape is set to deliver the power you need on demand, making for stress-free highway passing and hill climbing.
